SPOKANE, Wash. - KHQ has learned that Monday's thwarted device is actually a pipe bomb. Sources in Washington, D.C. told NBC Justice Correspondent Pete Williams that the bomb was surrounded by shrapnel and filled with smokeless powder, or gun powder. Sources also said the device, which is currently on its way to FBI headquarters in Virginia for further analysis, was radio controlled. Experts say this means even a certain garage door opener could have detonated it.
